Cracking The Culture was conceived inside room 208 at The Wayland apartments by University of Central Arkansas students.

Birthed in the midst of President Trump and the Black Lives Matter era, the 2017 summer days of these students were spent dissecting the music videos of Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, and Beyoncé, seeking deeper interpretation of the song lyrics of current artists while analyzing the writings and speeches of Malcolm X, Angela Davis, and James Baldwin. Through this peer-to-peer research, the stories of Madam C.J. Walker and Mansa Musa were heard.

Cracking the Culture was created to spark thought-provoking and even controversial conversations because the founders had a similar finding to many people: “There is much more to the story than we were taught.”
